NUS Big Apprentice Get Together
The NUS is organising the very first get together for Apprentices from across the country! Taking place in London on the 11th June in London, The Big Apprentice Get Together offers a great opportunity to help improve the experiences of all apprentices, where NUS will be listening to what apprentices have got to say and make recommendations that improve the opportunities for current and future learners.
The event will be made up of interactive discussions and debates as well as opportunities to meet other apprentices from difference sectors and providers from different parts of the country. John Hayes MP, Minister of State for Further Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills will be updating delegates on his vision for Apprenticeships and work based learning, including the new National Society for Apprentices and NUS will be launching the NUS Extra card, which will soon be available to Apprentices for the first time.
Members of the Humber Apprentice Panel (HAP) will be attending this event to ensure the voice of Apprentices within the Humber sub-region is heard. HAP vice chair Jade Woodfield stated “If you’re an Apprentice with a College that is affiliated with NUS then you should be given the opportunity to join NUS, however many of the Apprentices in England are with independent providers and as such don’t receive the same benefits as Apprentices at a college. As an Apprentice I consider myself to be a student, granted I work 38 hours per week and receive an Apprentice wage of £2.50 per hour however why shouldn’t all Apprentices be entitled to NUS representation and NUS discount? Why can’t Apprentices get into student nights at local nightclubs just because they haven’t got a plastic card stating they’re a member of NUS"
The event is FREE, and full details including registration can be found at www.nus.org.uk/apprentices
