Success Stories

CfL developed a number of success boards based on young people succeeding through Apprenticeships, which have been distributed across all local secondary schools. The following success stories are based on a number of these Apprentice successes.

  • Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration -Dave Thompson

    Dave Thompson

    Dave is a Contracts Administrator employed by Consortium for Learning (CfL)

    Dave completed his Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration with Chamber Training Ltd. ahead of schedule. Dave has continued to develop, taking greater responsibility within the organisation.

    Dave is also an active member on the Regional Learner Panel, which provides an opportunity for learners to express their views and make an active difference to policies and procedures within all aspects of learning.  As a result Dave has implemented and facilitates a local forum for Apprentices, the ‘Humber Apprentice Panel’.

  • Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration -Charlotte Carter
     Carlotte Carter

    Charlotte is a Contracts Administrator for Consortium for Learning (CfL).

    Charlotte completed her Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration with HYA Training.  Whilst undertaking her Advanced Apprenticeship Charlotte gained valuable knowledge and confidence through working closely with a wide range of individuals within her organisation and with external organisations. Charlotte has been able to build close working relationships with a network of organisations which helps her contribute effectively in dealing with queries and taking up new activities within her job role.

    The Advanced Apprenticeship has given Charlotte new confidence which has in turn increased her personal self-esteem.

    Since achieving her Advanced Apprenticeship Charlotte gained promotion from a receptionist to contracts administrator and is continuing to develop her skills and knowledge.

  • Advanced Apprenticeship in IT Users -Vicky Mercer

    Vicky MercerVicky is a Receptionist/Admin Assistant employed by Avant Partnership Ltd.

    Vicky completed her Apprenticeship in IT Users with Hull ITEC before progressing onto the Advanced Apprenticeship. Vicky has continued to develop, taking greater responsibility within the organisation.

    Vicky has gained more confidence in using IT programmes and gained further skills through her Apprenticeship including telephone techniques. Vicky is also an active member on the Humber Apprentice Panel, which provides an opportunity for Apprentices to express their views and make an active difference to policies and procedures within all aspects of Apprenticeships.

  • Apprenticeship in ICT Practitioners -Thomas Goldsmith
    Thomas, IT technician at Hessle High School

    Thomas is an IT Technician for Hessle High School. 

     Thomas completed his Apprenticeship in ICT Practitioners with Hull City Council Training (Hull ITEC). Thomas has steadily gained responsibility developing IT processes within the school. The Apprenticeship has helped Thomas to be able to source solutions to problems more effectively, learn new and invaluable IT skills and has given him more confidence within his job role.

    Since achieving his Apprenticeship, Thomas is about to progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship in ICT Practitioners and is hoping to then move onto a Level 4 qualification.

  • Advanced Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering -Brett Jackson
    Brett Jackson

    Brett is an Electrician for East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

    Brett is currently undertaking his Advanced  Apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering with Hull College. In addition to gaining recognised qualifications, Brett has advanced his skills in teamwork, communications and using his own initiative as a result of his Advanced Apprenticeship, which has given Brett a great foundation for his career in Electrical Engineering.

    On completion of his Advanced Apprenticeship, Brett is considering continuing to progress onto further qualifications in engineering.

    “I have enjoyed everything about my Apprenticeship so far and look forward to the future because of it”.

  • Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy -Frances Gibney

    Frances GibneyFrances owns her own Beauty Salon ‘Sitting Pretty’ in Louth.

    Sitting Pretty specialises in exclusive treatments including luxury manicures, pedicures and a variety of body treatments and facials. Frances completed her Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy with Alcrest Academy ahead of schedule. Frances was an exceptional Apprentice, very hard working and committed to her own development.

    Since achieving her Apprenticeship, Frances at 21 opened her own Beauty Salon. Frances is continuing her training and development and is hoping to become an NVQ Tutor/Assessor.

    Frances said her Apprenticeship provider had been very supportive in helping her set up her business “They are still involved and helping me now”.
